Act4MyBalticSea - Coastal communities actions for a cleaner Baltic Sea

Act4myBalticSea is an EU-supported project aiming at achieving
a better aquatic environment by encouraging local actions that contribute to a reduced flow of polluting nutrients reaching the
Baltic Sea.

The two main nutrients causing eutrophication are phosphorus and nitrogen.
These are abundant in our waste water systems and contribute to the eutrophication of the sea if the waste water treatment is unsatisfactory.
Through the project, we encourage improved on-site waste water treatment
for households and an increased collection of toilet waste from leisure boats.
At the same time, we seek to increase the public awareness about the coastal
water quality.

In order to inform the public on measures that can be undertaken at the
individual level we arrange local events and publish information on internet. Moreover, we offer technical advice regarding waste water treatment for
homes not connected to a public sewer and for leisure boats. Some house-
owners will be offered sewer inspections and personal visits will be made to a selection of house-owners and marinas.
